We the people

The recent incident in Delhi has teased and stirred our mind and hearts and eventually led many of the so called educated middle class to vent their anger against the government, the society and the so called protectors of the society.
But a little introspection into this incident would unleash some mammoth truths and reality of our country. Poverty and illiteracy among majority of the population is major reason for the social and moral degeneration. We are coming across a lot of debates and opinions on how to curb these women centric atrocities which is causing a lot of mayhem in our society. The very basic issues of subjugation of women folk is not a very new upspring, it has been through ages be it in form of sati or humiliation towards widows or any other mal practice against women, the entire society has always been apathetic towards the live Goddess at their homes.

Majority of the population and many social debates are making headlines as to inculcate moral and social values among men when they are child but my question is we as educated middle class do adhere to some of the values but what about the ocean of population who don’t have the liberty to go to school, their mothers are so depraved that imparting moral education is a forlorn concept when these people are so engrossed to meet their daily requirements.

The 5 accused in this case were from economically backward strata of the society, the very upbringing instils a sense of insecurity where social and moral values have no significance in their lives. Life is more of earning two meals a day. In that case how would a mother instill those attributes to her offspring’s if she herself is subject to torture, marital rape and subjugation everyday by the male member of her family?
The crisis is deep rooted which demands a lot of change and this is demanded from the government and each one of us. Living in U.K. since a few years I have seen the amount of charitable work their civil society does.
Every citizen has a role in the society, we as middle class educated people should come up with some reformative ideas and indulge in social cause not by asking the government to change laws only but implementing ideas and rigorously chasing ideas.

Meeting the slum dwellers once in a week and enlightening them about the significance of education at least an hour to educate the women folk would be a real endeavour to get ourselves involved in changing the society...
If we ask for a change we need to delineate the mechanism of change right here by us. Why not spend a day in month to organise meetings at these slums wherein we can summate the role of women in our lives and how she can raise her children in a better moral ground.
To delve deep into the minds of women who are deprived by the typically patriarchal society would be a major step. Stimulating their orthodox mental state and helping them to recognise their rights as women would be a great endeavour. Sons of these illiterate parents need liberal thinking not by seeing their mother’s sulking and cursing life everyday but by mother’s fighting for her right, how they can accelerate and imbibe good education and values to their sons.

Community work not by NGO’S but by civil society is called for. We as a democracy are by the people, of the people and for the people. It was demolition of sati by a person, widow remarriage act was proposed by a person so why not these evils be ward off by us...we the people.

Being a house -wife and a mother I think I have enough time at least in my weekeneds to come up with something like this and start off my work.I would love to hear from someone who believes that our little help and fill the ocean of change. How about starting something right now and trasforming our dreams of making our country a better place into reality. If anybody thinks twice and a chord is stimulated then we can go forward and start off in our locality, our slums, with our servants their associates.I wish to see some response and I am a dreamer but my dreams would wake many from the long slumber including me.Get up and let us get going!!!
